The Route 214 bridge replacement project in Seven Valleys is behind schedule, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The project was expected to be finished last month. However, the contractor, J.D. Eckman Inc. of Chester County, just set the beams for the span last week.

The new target date for opening the bridge is the end of January, said Mike Crochunis, a spokesman for PennDOT.  Crews will need to return in the spring to pave the approaches.

Work began in June to replace the 86-year-old bridge that carries Route 214 over the South Branch of the Codorus Creek. The project costs $2 million.
